Photo Scrolls

The Chinglish Photo Scroll

Background

The world´s first books originated in China and were made in a rollable format. Similarly, Chinese artists started painting on materials that could be rolled up like a scroll around a bamboo cylinder, thus ensuring protection of the illustration and making display and transportation convenient. Many households in China have a so-called scroll painting somewhere in the house.

While scroll paintings are deeply rooted in Chinese culture, the West has given the world the art of photography. Today, the Chinese are eager picture takers (China has become Kodak´s second largest photo film market globally after the USA). Chinglish.com has put two and two together. The result of this cross-fertilization is a new product, the photo scroll, to which Chinglish holds the intellectual property rights.

Advantages of the Chinglish rollable photo frame over traditional picture frames is that it is light (plastic photo pocket instead of glass plate), easy to hang on a wall and easy to transport, less fragile, user friendly because pictures/postcards can be inserted/taken out without the need to disassemble, and aesthetic.
